Sleep Medicine clinical update

The UMMC Sleep Disorders Center is an outpatient clinic in Jackson, Mississippi, which offers comprehensive diagnostic evaluation of patients with suspected sleep disorders as well as a full range of treatments for diagnosed disorders. The Sleep Medicine Clinic is in the Northeast Jackson Select Speciality Hospital at 5903 Ridgewood Road Jackson, MS. This clinic is managed by Dr. Allen Richert, who is the Division Director of Sleep Medicine and served as the Sleep Disorders Fellowship director from 1999 to 2022. In July of 2023, Dr. Dani I. Choufani was appointed as the new Sleep Disorders Fellowship director. The Sleep Disorders Fellowship currently has one fellow, Dr. Luis M. Guevara. 

We would like to highlight the recent successes at the Sleep Medicine clinic in increasing overall productivity and completed in-lab sleep studies. Overall, there was a 3.7% decrease in the No Show rate, from 26.7% in Fiscal Year 2022 to 23.0% in Fiscal Year 2023. Furthermore, in-lab sleep studies saw a 28.5% increase in completed appointments which means 317 more in-lab sleep studies were completed than the previous fiscal year. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of Dr. Allen Richert, Amanda Laura (Clinical Operations Director), David Herring (Sleep Lab Manager), and every polysomnographic technician that helped us increase access to care and treat significantly more patients in Fiscal Year 2023.
